Ministry of Forests and Range, Wildfire Management Branch
Frequently Asked Questions
Are burn plans required to be submitted by a professional?
No, not required. The plan is to be submitted to an official for approval.
Are FPC Guidebooks still in effect?
No, they are no longer a legal document.
They may be referred to as a source of information in determining if it is an accepted practice.
Is the Land Manager required to approve works on Crown land within the provincial forest?
Yes. Authorization to conduct the prescribed burn on the site must be acquired from the Land Manager prior to submitting the Burn Plan.
Prescribed Fire Approvals are granted through a "Letter of Authorization."
The Burn Plan does not provide for approval under the Environmental Management Act, Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation.
How are prescribed burn treatments tracked in the forest cover and inventory? Does the burn area require its own opening number?
Any prescribed burning within BC Timber Sales is updated through a new program called "GENUS." BCTS staff would be consulted for data input. Any other prescribed areas within the provincial forest get entered two ways. Burns within designated cutblocks get entered using the assigned opening number in a new program called "RESULTS." A Form B is to be completed and sent to the designated District representative. Shape Files defining the burn area are preferred to be included in the submission.
This folder will serve to update you on the quick fix release as well as other various RESULTS components.
I recommend you use the 'application bulletins by e-mail service' that is suggested in the bulletin. The bulletin is now on the RESULTS information web page. This will ensure you recieive the bulletins in a timely manner.
Any problems or questions with this release should be directed to the Business Application Services Section (BASS) at 250-952-6801 or email them at FORHISP.APPHELP@gov.bc.ca
Please find the guide for the completion of the form B used to update the forest cover inventory at this location.
