Installing Shana Informed Filler

  • Ministry Staff - This installation is to be performed by your local systems support person. Please refer to the instructions located here (sorry, only accessible to ministry staff).
External Clients (non-ministry) Print these instructions for future reference.
  1. We assume the following is performed either by you or your systems support staff. This install outlined below is for version 3.5.0.
  2. Get the software from the Ministry's ftp server, publicly accessible at this location. It's a 7MB SETUP.EXE for all 32bit PCs (Win95, 98, NT). It is an unlicensed version (we license the forms, not the filler). Copy it to a directory on your PC or LAN.
  3. Run the SETUP.EXE
    • Enter your Name and Organization when prompted, and click "next".
    • When prompted for a licence code, leave the box blank, and click next - click "yes" to the message box verifying that we use Keyed Forms.
    • Select Custom install. Navigate to Shared, Form Distribution, and under FTP Server Distribution uncheck WININET and check WINSOCK. And under Deployment server, do the same. Now finish the install.
  4. Download the BC Forest Profile and save to C:/Informed/Prefs/Distctrs on your PC. Close the window when the download is complete.
  5. Open Shana Filler - (Start, Programs, Informed, Informed Filler) and leave Registration Number blank. Then press Use Forms Now. Set other preferences as you may wish.

Note that we distribute un-registered copies of the Shana Filler as we license the forms. The filler will work for all licensed Shana forms, but not for unlicensed ones.

Saving Your Plan

While filling out the online form, you can choose to save it at any time. This allows you to take a break and complete the form at a later time, and also gives you the option of keeping a copy of your form after it is submitted in the event that changes need to be made.

To save a form:

  1. Click on File,
  2. Choose Save As from the list
  3. Enter a descriptive name in the file name text box
  4. The default location is c:\informed\data - click OK if this is acceptable, or choose a different location under Save In

Printing Your Plan

Once the form is complete, it can be printed out for submission to the local Forest Protection Officer.

In Shana, choose File, then print. Shana will automatically print off all mandatory pages, plus any of the optional pages that have been filled in. (see list below)

Cells with extra lines of text will be printed on additional pages.

    • The completed Burn Plan is
    to be submitted to the local
    Forest Protection Officer a
    minimum of 30 days prior to
    the date the burn is anticipated.
